Non - Faradaic Electrochemical Modification of Catalytic Activity REVERSIBLE PROMOTION OF PLATINUM METALS CATALYSTS

چکیده
The catalytic activity and selectivity of platinum metals can be altered dramatically and reversibly by interfacing the metal with a solid electrolyte which supplies ions onto the catalyst sugace under the influence of an external potential. The induced change in catalytic rate is orders of magnitude higher than the rate of ion supply. This new effect has revealed a surprisingly simple exponential relationship between catalytic activity and catalyst workfunction. The effect appears to apply to all heterogeneously catalysed reactions, but is particularly pronounced for platinum. This interfacing of electrochemistry and catalysis appears to offer some exciting theoretical and technological possibilities.

Noble metal-free hydrazine fuel cell catalysts: EPOC effect in competing chemical and electrochemical reaction pathways.
We report the discovery of a highly active Ni-Co alloy electrocatalyst for the oxidation of hydrazine (N(2)H(4)) and provide evidence for competing electrochemical (faradaic) and chemical (nonfaradaic) reaction pathways. The electrochemical conversion of hydrazine on catalytic surfaces in fuel cells is of great scientific and technological interest, because it offers multiple redox states, comp...

Introduction Electrochemically induced oxygen diffusion on electrode surfaces plays an important role in solid state electrochemistry, especially in the context of electrochemical promotion of catalysis (EPOC), also referred to as non-faradaic electrochemical modification of catalytic activity (NEMCA) [1]. The Pt(O2)|YSZ system is a model system in solid state electrochemistry as well as for EP...

The mono-metallic and bi-metallic catalysts have been prepared by impregnating with solutions containing a compound of H2PtCl6,WO3 and 1ml HCl (0.1 mol). It should be noted that the catalysts’ activity and selectivity have been determined under these conditions : 450-5000C ,and 15-25atm by H2. For converting n-heptane , the molar ratio H2/C7H16 is 5 , and LHSV is 1.5ml/h. It has been proved tha...
متن کاملNanoalloy catalysts for electrochemical energy conversion and storage reactions
A key challenge to the exploration of electrochemical energy conversion and storage is the ability to engineer the catalyst with low cost, high activity and high stability. Existing catalysts often contain a high percentage of noble metals such as Pt and Pd. One important approach to this challenge involves alloying noble metals with other transition metals in the form of a nanoalloy, which pro...

The activity of different transitional metals over modified H-ZSM-5 catalysts for methane conversion to aromatics was compared. The first group of catalysts was Mo-impregnated H-ZSM-5 zeolites with 1, 3 and 6 wt% of Mo. The second group was M(3 wt%)- impregnated H-ZSM-5 (M: Ag, Cd, Cr, Mo, Zn and Mn). The catalytic activity of the first group was investigated at 600, 700 and 800 °C and gas hour...
